The Beautiful Brain May Podcast: Brushstrokes to Cells

We're proud to introduce our monthly podcast to the sciencepodcasters.org community. The Beautiful Brain Podcast is a monthly interview-based program that explores the latest findings in neuroscience with particular attention to the dialogue between science and art. This month, host Noah Hutton interviews neuroscientist and artist Bevil Conway. Now a professor at Wellesley College, Conway has studied painting at McGill and neuroscience at Harvard, where he went on to do his Ph.D. work in the lab of Margaret Livingstone, studying the neural mechanisms of color and motion in primary visual cortex. His research in visual neuroscience has been featured in the New York Times and the Boston Globe, and next year he will begin work on a new book about neuroscience and art practice, discussed in this podcast.

How does our brain process color? Do artists and scientists explore the visual system in inherently different ways, or are these pursuits more unified than we often believe?
