A new diagnosis planned to be in the revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM V) is temper dysregulation disorder. Part of the reason for the development of this category is to provide a way of viewing children who may be getting over-diagnosed as having a childhood version of the chronic disorder, Bipolar Disorder. There has been a rising concern that since the 1990s there has been an increase in the diagnosis of bipolar disorder in children. Some clinicians and researchers question the validity of the trend.
