The Nursing Show
Pulmonary embolism is a condition where a blood clot that formed in some other part of the body has traveled to the lungs by way of circulation. It is usually the sequelae of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Not all cases of PE may exhibit symptoms, but if they do, it includes chest pain, shortness of breath, anxiety, coughing (dry but may be associated with blood), sweating, and loss of consciousness. These symptoms together with a history of a swollen arm or leg contributes to the suspicion of PE.
