Mental Disorders are Only Treated for Half of the Child and Adolescent Population with Disorders

gw augAre children and adolescents being diagnosed too frequently? Or not frequently enough? In a blogpost, I discuss a recent survey conducted by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which indicated that only about half of American children and teenagers with certain mental disorders receive professional services. The study, which was partially funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), further provided details about the diagnoses that are prevalent at different rates among various subgroups within the United States.
