The MedicCast
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a condition where a blood clot forms in the deep veins (usually in the legs). If left untreated, the blood clot can dislodge from the vein and travel to the bloodstream into the lungs resulting to a condition called pulmonary embolism. Physical symptoms of DVT are similar with the symptoms after the occurrence of trauma. To be able to identify DVT, paramedics should use their critical thinking skills, thorough history taking as well as knowledge on the causes and risk factors.
This week on the MedicCast is a review on assessment and recognition as well as treatment of deep vein thrombosis for paramedics including the latest news in EMS and links to this tip for future studies.
