Emergency medical services providers like EMTs and paramedics learn all about how injuries occur and what injuries to expect based on what happened to a person. This concept is called "Mechanism of Injury" and it is a key component in the field assessment of a trauma patient. Based on the history of events surrounding an injury, the ems provider can form an index of suspicion about what injuries they might believe exist below the surface where they can't readily assess in the field. In addition to looking at mechanism of injury, this week's MedicCast podcast looks at the medication, Glucagon and its uses in treating patients in the field.
