Psychology and Science: best friends or awkward associates?

Since this is my first post to a science podcast site, I came up with this spiffy topic idea to blog about. Is psychology a science? Or is it neither fish nor fowl?

I was pleased to be invited by Dr. Campbell to join a science website with my podcast and blog about school psychology. However, it made me think a bit about the assumptions people even in my field have about psychology. Are we a science? Or are we a mash-up of other things, philosophy, art, intuition, and a couple of quirky schools of thought thrown under the tent?

If you listen to my podcast and look at my website, you'll find that a theme in many of my casts and posts, is to focus on the evidence, the research and separating the facts from the myths. So, I whole-heartedly step into this arena of science and invite you to visit my website weiszdoc.com where you can access my podcast, blog and discussion board as well as learn more about me.

My podcast is on itunes. It's the most popular school psychology podcast (though there are only 2 podcasts in this category). It's about at the top 30 in psychology podcasts. It's short, to the point and easy to listen to without having to take out your Introduction to Psychology and Statistics textbooks!

Thanks Gaston!

This site is committed to featuring evidence-based science. Your post addresses a valid concern since psychology doesn't always have the best reputation. However, there is lots of valid science going on in the field and I look forward to your sharing it with us.
