Positive Psychology in Positive Schools: School Psychology Podcast 037

The positive psychology movement is a promising approach that is consistent with school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports programs. These two approaches emphasize the need to make schools more positive, proactive and effective.

Positive psychology is a movement in psychology that seeks to change this focus from problems and disorders to building on positive traits in people. The value of focusing on what works, what goes right and what helps people seems obvious. Yet, the tendency in the field has been to elaborate our understanding and view of what goes wrong in people to the near exclusion of noticing strengths, competencies and other positive factors. Why do some children raised in a harsh environment go on to become well adjusted and successful. Isn't that something worth studying so we could increase this resiliency factor in children?
